Synthesis and controlled-release properties of thermoresponsive halloysite/poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) microgels |

The poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) particles containing surface modified halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are proposed. This novel thermoresponsive microgel is characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and FT-IR. A micrometer-sized PNIPAM particles are synthesized by semi-batch process with existence of electrolyte and initiator. Surface modified HNTs with 3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane which is used by crosslinker of PNIPAM synthesis are then added to coat PNIPAM particles. The HNT-PNIPAM particles’ volume can be changed by controlling temperature around 32ºC. Controlled release properties are investigated to provide new method for various applications. |
