From tens to hundreds of nanometer-sized metal oxides are known to absorb in the near-infrared (700-2500nm) region. The energy absorption at wavelengths of the near infrared region by antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) is excellent, and the transparent properties of the nano-sized particles used to form transparent windows favor their use as a heat protecting material. NIR absorption by ATO was optimized with respect to the antimoney dopant. ATO can be used as a coating agent in applications such as heat protecting funtionalised glass panels or transparent plastic materials. The polymer matrix coating agents could be formed via the crosslinking reaction of silanol monomer or oligomers, dilutes, and silica sols. The thermal stability, mechanical and optical properties were investigated. Structural and morphological features of coatings were assessed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Performance of the coatings was evaluated using water resistance studies, thermo-gravimetric analysis and heat-absorbing ability such as surface temperature, increasing of inner chamber temperature. |
