Microfluidic Generation of Ethyl Cellulose Microcapsules with Optothermally Switched Hydrogel Gates |
초록 |
Targeted release of materials encapsulated in solid microcapsules is important in drug delivery systems. Triggered release by near-Infrared light is attractive as light can stimulate small sites of interest and tissues have low absorption in the near IR region. Here, we demonstrated the production of optothermally switched microcapsules using a simple fluidic device. We produced the ethyl cellulose microcapsules loaded with thermoreversible poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) particles containing gold nanorods. By adjusting the flow rates of continuous and dispersed phases, we have achieved a precious control over the wall thickness and the overall diameter of capsules. The incorporation of gold nanorods into hydrogels resulted in the rapid volume shrinkage for remote controlled actuation. Irradiation by 808nm laser induced phase transitions and volume changes in PNIPAm gels, increasing the permeability of the capsule shell. |
