Lithium recovery from natural resources has attracted much attention because of the high demand for lithium in energy storage systems used in portable electronic devices and electric vehicles. In this study, we report the electro-assisted lithium recovery system and tested its selectivity on lithium in the presence of other cations . As the results show, most electrosorbed ions, except lithium ions, are removed during the washing process, and lithium ions were recovered through an electrodesorption process by applying a reverse potential. Selectivity in the electrodesorption step was observed in the order of Li+ ≫ Mg2+ > Ca2+ > K+ > Na+, which observed that the ionic radius and oxidation state affect the selectivity. The results were reproducible, and no manganese dissolution was observed during 5 consecutive recovery cycles. |
