Supported metal nanoparticles (NPs) have been excited much interest in the field of heterogeneous catalysts. Considering the size/shape dependant properties and a large surface-to-volume ratio of metal NPs, it is most desirable for ideal catalysts to load the small NPs and narrow size distribution onto supporting materials. Recently, ultimate 2-D nanosheets of exfoliated layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have emerged as a promising supporting material to immobilize a high density of metal NPs, because of a high charge density and a large reactive surface of the LDH host layers. In this study, we have synthesized uniform Pt and Pd NPs on LDH nanosheet by chemical reductions. TEM measurements clearly indicated uniform 2-dimensional dispersion of the NPs on the LDH nanosheet without evident particle aggregation. Catalytic performance of the nanocomposites was also studied. |
