A pH- and visible light-induced membrane-nucleus targeting was designed using crosslinked carbon dot-titanium oxide (TiO2-DCD-ZCD). The material showed off-on fluorescence in cancerous pH due to boronate ester. After boronate cleavage, the TiO2-DCD penetrated the hydrophobic site of membrane cell, and further become more hydrophilic after visible irradiation, resulting nucleus targeting along with Z-CD. Moreover, due to photothermal ability of DCD, the material generated heated under NIR exposure, which only occurred in cancerous environment and minimum in normal cell environment. In vivo tumor model was further confirmed the tumor ablation under NIR irradiation, which makes this material potential for sensitive, selective and effective cancer theranostic system.
