Composite waste composed of carbon fibers and epoxy resin has been pyrolysed by using steam at temperatures of 350 ~ 1000℃. Heat capacity of steam was higher than normal gases. That is the reason that steam was used as an effective medium for the thermal decomposition. The recycled carbon fibres were characterized using a single fiber tensile test, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The tensile strength and modulus of the recycled carbon fiber was similarly observed with those as-received carbon fibers. Compared to as-received carbon fibers, the surface compositions of the recycled carbon fibers didn’t show significant changes, and the tensile strength of the recycled carbon fibers was well retained. |
