In this study, a composite hollow fiber membrane of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) prepared on the macroporous polyetherimide (PEI) support was used for the concentration of bioethanol produced from the fermentation of waste paper. As a preliminary study, the pervaporation experiments were carried out in a synthetic solution of water and ethanol at a concentration up to 80% and temperatures of 20–60 oC. The results showed a trade-off between ethanol flux and separation factor in the pervaporation of the binary mixture of ethanol and water. In addition, pervaporation experiments of bioethanol were executed, which was produced during fermentation of waste paper. In this study, bioethanol from waste paper was concentrated by the pervaporative separation using a composite hollow fiber membrane as a feasibility study of pervaporation. |
