Polyaniline is one of the promising conductive and conjugated polymers that possess excellent electronic, optical, and redox properties, leading to commercial applications such as sensors, electronic devices, rechargeable batteries, corrosion resistant coatings, etc. The linkage of aniline to polymer chain can be easily performed by chemical or electrochemical oxidation of aniline with chemical oxidants or oxidative currents. Several structure-analogues of aniline such as aminopyridine, aminonaphthalene, aminoquinoline, and aminoanthracene, were tested in their polymerizability through chemical oxidation method. The polymerization mechanism, structure and properties of polymers were comparatively analyzed with polyaniline using diverse spectroscopic methods. |
