In this study, a highly efficient Pd catalyst was prepared for electro-oxidations of ethanol and formic acid. Over a support material of a modified polypyrrole-carbon composite which was doped by camphor sulfonic acid (CSA) during polymerization of polypyrrole at room temperature. The resulting polypyrrole-carbon composite doped with CSA possesses highly porous surface structure and enhanced electrical conductivity compared with a polypyrrole-carbon composite without doping by the CSA. The results reveal that the Pd-supported on polypyrrole-carbon composite doped with CSA exhibited a larger electrochemical surface areas (ECSAs), enhanced catalytic activity and high durability towards the oxidations of ethanol and formic acid. The camphor sulfonic acid serving as both dopant and surfactant can not only improve the electrical conductivity and morphology of support material, but also enhance the good interaction between Pd nanoparticles and support material. |
