Highly active cathode of SOEC with double perovskite for high temperature H2O/CO2 co-electrolysis |

Recently, solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) has become an attractive research field for reduction and utilization of carbon dioxide through converting electrical energy into chemical energy with high energy efficiency. However, conventional Ni based cathode used in the SOEC applications suffers from the redox instability and performance degradation. Here, we investigate double perovskite catalyst materials as a promising alternative cathode of SOEC for H2O/CO2 co-electrolysis. The double perovskite cathode cell exhibits outstanding performance at a cell voltage of 1.3 V with a current density value of 0.570 A/cm2 at 800 ℃ for the co-electrolysis operation. Moreover, performance degradation under electrolysis operation at a constant applied current was not observed for 50 h with double perovskite cathode. Thereby, by virtue of these properties, double perovskite materials developed here can be applied as promising ceramic catalyst materials for the SOEC cathode. |
