Organic solar cells (OSCs) with bulk heterojunction (BHJ) layers have attracted keen attention as a next-generation solar energy conversion device due to their advantages including viable lightweight/flexible modules fabricated via roll to roll and low-temperature process. Since >10% power conversion efficiency (PCE) has been reached for OSCs by employing brand-new donor and acceptor materials, commercialization stage seems to be around the corner. In principle, the PCE improvement in OSCs is strongly influenced by device structures and organic materials. On this account, interlayers have been spotlighted because their insertion into conventional devices can result in the improved PCE. Our group has been focusing on polymer-based interlayers and recently found that they exhibit particular nanostructures leading to the enhanced PCE. This presentation will introduce our recent results for nanostructured interlayers for high efficiency OSCs and discuss an insight for further advances. |
