A Study on the Mechanical Properties of Copper-plated Carbon Fibers/Epoxy Resin Composites |

In this work, the electrolytic plating of a metallic copper on carbon fiber surfaces was carried out to improve mechanical interfacial properties of carbon fibers/epoxy resin composites. The surface characteristics of carbon fibers and the mechanical interfacial properties of composites were characterized by an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) respectively. From the results, it was found that the electrolytic copper plating conditions significantly affected the degree of adhesion at interfaces between carbon fibers and epoxy resin in a composite system. |
