During the last decades, there were many efforts intend to find renewable resources that can alternate the oil-based materials due to its limitation on environmental issue. In this work, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) was used as a renewable resource to prepare an epoxy curing agent (Furan based flame retardant, FBF) and phosphorus containing functional group was incorporated to enhance its flame retardant activity. The new flame retardant epoxy resin was synthesized via 2-steps, 1-spot reaction, which total yield is approximately 83%. Final product was characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and 31P-NMR. Final thermosetting polymer was formed by Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE) as an epoxy resin, FBF as an epoxy curing resin and 2-methyl imidazole was used as accelerator in order to reduce activation energy. |
