The epoxidized linseed oil (ELO) was synthesized and characterized using fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and gel permeation chromatograph (GPC). The ELO was blended with the epoxy resins (diglycidylether of bisphenol-A, DGEBA) to obtain the modified network having ELO content from 10 to 40 wt.%. The DGEBA and DGEBA/ELO blends were characterized by the thermal and mechanical properties. The thermal properties of the DGEBA/ELO blends were investigated using several techniques and the mechanical properties of the DGEBA/ELO blends were studied by means of measurements of the Izod impact strength. The morphologies were obserbed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In the result, the impact strength of the DGEBA/ELO blends was significantly improved with the addition of ELO, owing to high intermolecular interactions in the DGEBA/ELO blends. |
