Fabrication of hydrogel micropattern-incorporated fibrous scaffolds capable of growth factor delivery for enhanced osteogenesis of hMSCs |

In this paper, we fabricated multi-functional 3D fibrous scaffolds which have capability of independently-controlled release of BMP-2 and bFGF. To create patterned structure which consists of poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) hydrogel and fiber, hydrogel lithography was applied onto the electrospun fiber. The resultant micropatterned 3D fibrous scaffold offered not only biomimetic structures but also suitable biochemical environment for cell differentiation by releasing two growth factors independently from hydrogel and fiber, respectively. The results showed that the sequential release system of 3D fibrous scaffolds was beneficial to induced osteogenesis of hMSCs, and the efficiency was higher than other released systems with or without single growth factors. The fabricated multifunctional 3D fibrous scaffold indicates the potential for using practical tissue engineering. |
