Pt and Pt-based alloys presently are the most widely used cathode catalysts for polymer electrolyte fuel cells due to high oxygen reduction reaction activity. However, in the DMFC case, these catalysts suffer from their inherent lack of methanol tolerance, which further lowers the already unimpressive operating potential of the cathode, thus making methanol-tolerant cathode materials even more attractive. Consequently, in this work, Ru chalcogenide cathode catalyst was prepared by two novel fabrication methods and its oxygen reduction activity, fuel cell performance, and methanol tolerance were investigated. |
