Polymer Nanotubes Using Layer-by-Layer Method with Anodic Aluminium Oxide Templates |

Nanotubes have attracted scientific interest because of their potential application in electronic, biosensor, and drug delivery system. It is a challenging work to fabricate polymer nanotubes with diameter less than 200 nm using layer-by-layer method on anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) template. Because porous substrates with pore diameter less than 200 nm were immersed into a polymer solution, the entrance of the pores is covered and blocked by polymers due to entropic barrier. So, polymer molecules could not be entered into pores and adsorbed to the inner template walls. In this study, polymer nanotubes composed of poly-4-vinylpyridine and poly acrylicacid were prepared with a dip self-assembly method on the AAO template. To fabricate nanotubes with pore diameters less than 100nm, we controlled the ratio of the polymer dimension to the pore diameters by molecular weight and changed charge density by the solution pH for polymer chains to enter into the pores without pore blocking. |
