제목 Bacteria detection based on the photothermal effect using gold nanorods
초록 Bacterial infections are common causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide; therefore, the contamination of food products with bacterial pathogens is a global public health concern. Consequently, a selective, rapid, sensitive, and in-field detection platform for the detection of significant bacterial contamination is required in to ensure food safety and protect public health. Here, we developed a fast and simple platform for the selective detection of bacteria by measuring bioluminescence following photothermal lysis mediated by gold nanorods (GNRs). This method employed both targeted photothermal lysis of bacteria under NIR irradiation and selective detection of the lysed bacteria via bioluminescence. Using the proposed method, bacteria could be detected in pure solution and in artificially inoculated real samples within 30 min. Furthermore, this method was highly specific without cross-reaction among pathogenic bacteria. We believe that the proposed method has significant potential as an on-site diagnostic tool in food safety, public health, and environmental pollution monitoring applications.
