Core-shell structured semiconducting particles were synthesized, and their electrorheological (ER) property under an applied electric field was examined. Primarily, monodispersed PMMA nanoparticles (~700nm) were synthesized by dispersion polymerization and poly(2-ethylaniline) (PEAN)-PEGDMA particles were synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization. SEM, TEM, FT-IR and TGA were used to characterize the fabricated particle. ER fluids of the suspensions of these particles were examined using a rotational rheometer focusing on effects of electric field strength and the Cho-Choi-Jhon model of rheological equation of state. Results showed that performance of ER fluids were enhanced by increasing electric field strength. The dielectric spectra measured using a LCR meter supported data for the ER effect. |
