Synthetic porous polymer membrane displays the utility in a wide variety of industrial application. The utility of that for a particular application depends on a number of factors such as the pore size and pore size distribution, strength, and chemical composition of the membrane. However, There are still needs for new methods of preparation which will provide the structure with unique properties. The widely used processes for microporous membrane fabrication are Solvent Casting method and Thermally Induced Phase Separation(TIPS). Compared with the conventional solvent casting process, the TIPS process has less parameters for thermodynamic and kinetic analysis. Therefore, structure control in TIPS process is much easier than in solvent casting process. various polymers and diluent have been used for the TIPS process. High Density Polyethylene(HDPE) is one of the most popular TIPS membrane material because of its many advantages over other polymer. In this work, HDPE- Soybean oil system was examined to reveal the Liquid-Liquid phase separation mechanism and the resulting pore structure. |
