Liposuction is an operation to remove fat from human body. It is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries performed in 2011 for 1,268,287 patients in US. In liposuction surgery, a cannula connected with vacuum pump is inserted into body and moved to break and suck out fat tissue. However, it can cause many side effects like contusion and hemorrhage. Here, we took advantage of the photothermal effect of melanoidin to dissolve and remove fat tissue efficiently. Biodegradable melanoidin was synthesized by non-enzymatic Maillard reaction. In vitro and in vivo experiment was performed using near-infrared (NIR) laser (808 nm, 1 W). The temperature of the melanoidin-injected tissue was raised much higher during the irradiation of an NIR laser than PBS-injected tissue. Experiments to measure the change of mechanical property and micro structure of tissue is in progress. Taken together, we could confirm the feasibility of melanoidin for the external laser assisted liposuction. |
