제목 Self-Assembled Monolayers of Twisted Biaryls: New Surface for Controlled Growth of Organic Crystals
초록 Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of twisted biaryls such as 1,1’-binaphthyl(BN) derivatives were synthesized and utilized for controlling the growth of organic crystals. Although the SAMs of aromatic compounds have strong Van der Waals interaction with most functional organic molecules via p-pinteraction, those of twisted bi-aromatic compounds such as BNs, of which two naphthalene groups are twisted along the carbon(1)-carbon(1’) single bond, forms an rigid amorphous surface on which packing of aromatic molecules is anticipated to be hindered. Here we present the crystallization behaviors of thermally evaporatedpentacenes on the BN SAMs as compared with the behaviors on SiO2 or alkyl SAM surfaces. We fabricated pentacene-based organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) using the unique crystal growth behaviors on the new SAM surface of the twisted aromatic compounds.
