제목 Characterization of sulfonated poly (aryl ether sulfone) membranes with sulfated zirconia for high temperature fuel cells
초록 Composite membranes based on sulfonated ploy (aryl ether sulfone) (SPAES) with various sulfated zirconia (s-ZrO2) contents were synthesized for PEM fuel cell applications at high temperature above 100 oC. The s-ZrO2 was prepared to improve the hygroscopic property and the proton conductive property using a sol-gel process. The presence of the s-ZrO2 additive, when uniformly dispersed at nano particle size in the organic matrix, may favorably affect the proton conductivity because the strongly bound water on the s- ZrO2 can make H+ transfer charnels effective. This results in improved proton conductivity through proton pathways even at high temperature. The composite membranes with various s-ZrO2 contents were characterized by water uptake, IEC, SEM, XRD, FT-IR, and TG-MS. The SPAES membrane with 5 wt% s-ZrO2 was employed to performer under various humidity levels for high temperature PEMFCs.
