Silicon carbide possesses a range of interesting physical properties which make it an attractive material for applications ranging from heat engines to electronic devices to nuclear systems. In this study, an electrospun polycarbosilane (PCS) fiber was cured by an electron beam irradiation in an argon atmosphere. The cured PCS fiber was pyrolyzed and a SiC fiber was obtained. The surface appearance, thermal properties and crystal structures of the fibers were characterized by means of SEM, TGA and XRD, respectively. |
