제목 Contact-induced molecular rearrangement of pressure sensitive adhesives
초록 It is widely accepted that the adhesion performance is dependent on interfacial and rheological properties of adhesives. Although recent literatures have pointed out that the main mechanism affecting the adhesion of pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) is the viscoelastic dissipation, a controversial issue found recently has spurred us to be interested in the surface effect. Surface hydrophilicity change of PSAs gave a massive increase to the adhesion performance through the induced orientation of the polar group by the metallic adherend. This effect increased with an incremental dwell time on the adherend. Surface energy calculation of the adhesives was employed to certify their change of surface properties as subjected to wetting on the adherend. The surface chemistry was analyzed using FTIR and TOF-SIMS techniques. The results suggest that the orientation of the polar group is the time-dependent sole mechanism.
