TiO2particles were coated with PMMA for improvement of dispersion stability in a dielectric medium for microcapsule-type electrophoretic display application while retaining their high refractivity and excellent whiteness. Uniform coating of PMMA on TiO2 was attained by controlling the composition of the dispersion medium, which was confirmed by FT-IR, and TGA analyses. Particle size and distribution were characterized by ectrophoretic light scattering(ELS), and its surface was examined by SEM. Microcapsule containing TiO2/PMMA composite particles and the electrophoretic suspension in its inside was fabricated via in situ polymerization using urea, melamine and formaldehyde resins. It was confirmed that composite particles for white electronic inks in the microcapsule moved toward the positive eletrode when voltage was applied, and pulled back in the opposite direction when volatge was off. keywords: nanoparticle, composite particle, TiO2/PMMA electrophoretic, dispersion |
