The chemical recycling method of polyvinylchloride (PVC), which has been largely being used due to its low cost and excellent physicochemical properties, has been attractive way to produce HCl and useful petrochemicals recently. Compared to the simple incineration of PVC, several environmentally-friendly reaction mediums such as poly ethylene glycol (PEG) and ionic liquid of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim]Cl) have been largely investigated to enhance the dehydrochlorination activity of PVC with a lower generation of harmful pollutants. In the present study, PEG400 and ionic liquids were used to elucidate the dehydrochloriation activity with the presence metal oxides such as Fe3O4, CaO, MgO, and CuO and so on. The reaction was carried out in a batch reactor at 130 °C for around 3 h in a liquid phase reaction. The dehydrochloriation of PVC with PEG400 medium was found to be around 86% after 3 h reaction, and the effects of metal oxides were also investigated to verify the activity changes. |
