Terminal hydroxyl group of polyepichlorohydrin (PECH) which is polymerized via cationic ring opening polymerization (CROP) is about 90% secondary alcohol structure. Secondary alcohol has lower reactivity with isocyanate than primary alcohol for urethane reaction. In this work, the primary hydroxy terminated PECH were prepared by cationic end-capping reaction. First of all, CROP of epichlorohydrin carried out in presence of BF3 and tripropylene glycol. After polymerization, the end-capping reaction of hydroxy terminated PECH with ethylene oxide or 1,3-propylene oxide were performed at variation reaction condition. Ratio of primary hydroxyl group in PECH were investigated by NMR spectroscopy. The molecular weight characterizations of the resulting polymers were analyzed by GPC (gel permeation chromatography). |
