Hyperbranched macromolecules have attained increasing interest as it is a potential alternative for the perfectly branched dendrimers that have to be constructed in a usually tedious, stepwise approach. We have synthesized hyperbranched poly-glycidols (HBP) with different molecular weight, and have studied their intercalation in Na+-montmorillonite clay. HBP was polymerized using trimethylolpropane and PEG as the initiator by ring opening polymerization. These polymers were characterized by NMR, GPC and SLS. Intercalation of HBP into montmorillonite was carried out by sonication in water. It was found that the interlayer distance of clay can be controlled by using different molecular weight of HBP. The corresponding result was supported by IR, TGA and X-ray diffraction studies. These composites have potential for drug carrier, and it was checked by using dye and drug molecules. |
