The bimetallic (NixPt1-x) alloy mesocrystals within carbon framework was prepared by an aerosol-assisted process to be used as high performance catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction and hydrogenation. Porous NixPt1-x alloy has a robust mesostructure of nanoparticles with tunable composition and carbon framework and exhibits a high thermal stability at various sintering conditions (time, temperature, and atmosphere). As a catalyst for propylene hydrogenation, NixPt1-x alloy shows excellent catalytic activity (conversion ratio (>80%) at 80 °C) and low activation energy (Ea<20 kJ/mol))through the control of elemental compositions and pore structures. As an electro-catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction, NixPt1-x alloy shows superior catalytic activity (0.853 mA/cm2Pt at 0.9 V) to that of conventional Pt/C (0.115 mA/cm2Pt) because of highly activated metal alloy nanoparticles and increased reactants accessibility to catalyst stemming from the unique porous structure. |
