Single atom catalysts (SACs) have been actively studied recently. Because SACs provide the highest utilization of expensive noble metals and have interesting catalytic performance due to absence of ensemble site. For examples, Pt1/FeOx has good performance for preferential oxidation of CO or hydrogenation of nitroarenes, Pt1/TiN and Pt1/TiC showed high selectivity to H2O2 during oxygen reduction reaction, and so on. However, due to high surface free energy, single metal atoms are thermodynamically unstable. Single metal atoms have been stabilized by support effect or ligand effect. Direct formic acid fuel cells have been attracted as next-generation power sources for portable devices. Formic acid oxidation reaction (FAOR) has ‘dual-path reaction mechanism’. In previous researches, direct path needs only 1-2 Pt atoms but indirect path needs Pt ensemble sites. Pt single atom catalysts with high selectivity to direct path have to be developed because indirect path has COads intermediate as catalytic poison. We developed Pt single atom electrocatalysts with high selectivity to direct pathway of FAOR, and high stability. |
