Usually the emission spectra of conjugated polymers have a large full width at half maximum. The long wavelength tail results from the formation of aggregates and interchain eximers. We attempted to improve color purity and to enhance spectral stability of EL materials by introducing spiro and kink structure. Orthogonally fused structure of the spiro-type molecules entitles them the desired steric demand, which minimizes interchain contacts of the molecules. Kink disorder in the conjugated polymer chain was introduced to depress aggregation phenomena and its effect on the eximer formation. The synthesis of copolymers and homopolymers accomplished by the Heck coupling reaction and by the Yamamoto coupling reaction, respectively. Photoluminescence, Electroluminescence, and current-voltage-luminescence characteristics of the polymers were investigated. |
