CO is utilized for the production of acetic acid, polycarbonate, phosgene, isocyanates, and various specialty chemicals. CO is largely produced in steam reforming process, partial oxidation process, and steel making process as coke oven gas, blast furnace gas, Linz-Donawitz gas. Recently, the recovery from CO rich off-gas is gaining a lot of attention. Typically, cryogenic distillation is used for the separation of CO from nitrogen but economically disadvantageous because of their close boiling points. Gas adsorptive separation such as pressure swing adsorption process is suitable for the medium-scale production of CO and easy operation on site. In this study, copper(I) chloride-loaded alumina adsorbent was prepared by incipient wet impregnation and thermal monolayer dispersion, respectively. Using a volumetric gas adsorption apparatus, CO and CO2 adsorption isotherms were measured and the effect of additives on CO adsorption was studied. |
