제목 Synthesis and characterization of novel polythiophene derivatives ; the effect of side chain hydrophilicity on the mesomorphic behaviors of the polythiophene
초록 A novel thermotropic liquid crystalline (LC) polythiophene derivative containing decyl-tri(oxyethylene) amphiphilies in the side chain was synthesized via Grignard methathesis method (GRIM), and we also synthesized polythiophene derivatives having hydrophobic alkyl side group and hydrophilic oxyethylene side group instead of amphiphilic side group, respectively. The effect of side chain polarity on the formation of liquid crystalline phase was investigated using differential scaning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM), and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD). The polythiophene derivative with amphiphilic side group was found to exhibit a smectic LC phase, while, the polythiophene deviatives without amphiphilic side group did not show any LC phase.
