One-dimensional (1D) inorganic polymer, [Cu(II)(PDA)2(DMF)2]n was successfully synthesized through the reaction of Cu(NO3)2 and 2,6-dicarboxylic pyridine (PDA) in dimethylformamide (DMF). X-ray crystal structure of this product shows 5-coordinate square pyramidal geometry in each building unit. A tri-dentate chelating PDA and a DMF molecule are coordinate to a copper (II) center. An oxygen atom in the carboxylate from the other building unit coordinates to the copper center to generate 1D polymeric structure. As excess pyridine was added in the formation reaction, a pyridine coordinated 1D inorgainc polymer, which had been previously known, were generated. Interesting physical properties were observed from these one dimensional polymer crystals using spectroscopic techniques. The structure, reactivity and physical properties of the synthesized 1D crystalline polymers will be presented. |
