Size controllable iron-induced cyclodextrin (CD) nanosphere with a narrow size distribution was successfully produced by adding the nonsolvent to beta-CD/ferrous acetate (beta-CD/FeAc) solution. ICP-AES and HR-TEM showed that iron atom was well-dispersed into CD spherical self-assembly. It was found that beta-CD/FeAc solution was still maintained a clean solution state after a week from the solution preparation (Rg value=4.3 nm). This indicates an isolation of individual Fe2+ by the beta-CD, and CP/MAS 13C solid-state NMR showed that the binding of beta-CD to Fe2+ was attributed to the inclusion complex of beta-CD and Fe2+. From the morphological observation of samples prepared from beta-CD/FeAc solutions with various FeAc concentration, it was confirmed that the mole ratio between beta-CD and FeAc is the key in preparing a sphere-like CD self-assembly. Interestingly, the size of the beta-CD nanosphere could be simply controlled by manipulating the adding speed of the nonsolvent. |
