Nafion membrane in PEFCs has high proton conductivity and chemical stability while operated below 80℃. However, the water uptake decreases when the temperature is higher, which causes the decrease in conductivity. Therefore, we have developed organic-inorganic composite membranes having high proton conductivity and chemical stability at high temperature over 100℃. The composite membranes composing of sulfonated poly(arylether) sulfone (SPES) and sulfated titanium dioxide (s-TiO2) were prepared by solution casting. It was found that the water uptake increased with the increasing of the sulfated-TiO2 contents in the composite membrane. The prepared membranes were characterized by proton-conductivity, water uptake, IEC, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). |
