We report an efficient temperature sensing platform based on GO nanocomposites that have been functionalized with a fluorescent, thermally-responsive block copolymer. In addition, we demonstrate the application of such a platform as a real-time on-off switching temperature sensor. We designed P7AC-b-PNIPAM-b-PSN3 triblock copolymers that consist of poly(7-(4-(acryloyloxy)butoxy)coumarin) as the fluorescent component, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) as the thermally-responsive polymer, and a short poly(azido-styrene) block. Azide functional groups in the PSN3 can provide covalent anchors to the GO surface, producing fluorescent, thermally-responsive, P7AC-b-PNIPAM- anchored GO composites (FGO). FRET between the blue-emitting coumarins in the P7AC block and GO is governed by their interspacing, which can be controlled through the manipulation of conformational features of the PNIPAM chains that respond to temperature changes. |
