Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells(PEMFCs) have been researched as eco-friendly energy resources that are alternative to fossil fuels. Since hydrocarbon ionomers are less expensive than fluorinated ionomers, improving efficiency of hydrocarbon ionomers are one of the key subjects for commercializing fuel cells. The multiblock copolymers based polystyrene which has sulfonic acid functional groups can be expect to induce high density of ion channel and high degree of phase segregation. Poly(ether sulfone) was copolymerized the polystyrene-based material for thermal stability and stable chemical structure. By adjusting the degree of polymerization of the two each polymers, the ion exchange capacity(IEC) and swelling degree was managed. It was confirmed that the membranes form the phase separation and ion clusters by AFM and TEM. Finally, the proton conductivity of the membranes was measured higher than Nafion membrane in high humidity condition. |
