Microalgae have good potentials to be a feedstock for production of biofuels. Biodiesel is most commonly produced from microalgae, but only the fatty acids in the cell are used. bio-fuels Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of the lipid-extracted algae (LEA) produces biocrude that could be converted to biofuels. The effects of temperatures (300 – 350°C) and reaction times (5, 10, 20, 40, and 60 min.) in HTL of Tetraselmis sp. LEA, containing 80 wt.% water on energy recovery and contents of N and O in the biocrude were investigated. A maximum energy recovery of 67.6% was obtained at 325°C and 40 min. with the highest energy density of 31.8 MJ/kg and the lowest N and O contents among the reaction conditions. The result shows that reaction conditions of 325°C and 40 min. were most suitable for maximizing energy recovery, and achieving improved quality of biofuel for LEA of Tetraselmis sp. |
