Nanomaterials based on the self-assembly of peptide amphiphiles (PAs), responsing stimuli, have been attracted attention in the fields of biomedical applications. In particular, the conformational change by pH can cause the structural transformation, leading to physiological and chemical property. Herein, we have synthesized PAs consisting of α-helix and β-sheet block with pH-responsive character. The secondary structures were confirmed by circular dichroism (CD) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) under various pH conditions. Also, self-assembled nanostructures were observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM). Interestingly, there is morphological change from the entangled long rigid fibrils to flexible short fibrils, as increase pH value, which is due to the conformational change from helix to coil, leading to the macroscopic phase transition. We believe this is valuable for the development of nanomaterials used in pharmaceutical and biomedical applications. |
