Confinement Effects of Polymer Systems: Mechanical Instability |
초록 |
Lateral buckling in nanoscale polymer walls induced by residual stresses in deposited metal has been investigated via experimentsally as well asand using theoretical scaling analysis. Experiments were performed on Janus nanowalls which are a bilayer wall composed of polymer and Au metal films. Polymer nanowalls are made with soft lithography techniques and then Au is deposited on one side of polymer nanowalls by scattering vertically etched out of a substrate of crosslinked polymers.. Metal films of comparable thickness were deposited on one face of the walls. Instabilities induced by residual stresses in the metal and geometric constraints lead to lateral buckling. Features of the wrinkling patterns resulting from lateral buckling were investigated theoretically using scaling analysis. The theoretical results agree quite well with the experimental observations. |
