Preparation and Characterization of Oligomeric Polyamide(oPA) Containing Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane(POSS) |

Oligomeric polyamides(oPA) whose average molecular weight are less than 10,000 were synthesized by melt polymerization with dibasic acid and ω-amino carboxylic acid. Subsequently oPAs containing POSS were prepared by grafting reaction to oPAs with POSS having glycidyl functional groups. In addition some oPA-POSSs were synthesized by ring opening polymerization of various lactams previously incorporated with POSS. Identification and determination of POSS content in oPA were executed for further characterization. The oPA-POSSs showed less degree of crystallinity than the PA oligomers without POSS at the same average molecular weight but no dropping in crystal melting point. It is expected that the oPA-POSS are suitable for formation of thermoplastic PA-inorganic hybrids elastomers. |
