Two new half-metallocene Ruthenium (III) complexes [(Cp*RuCl2) PPh2R] [R=C6H4-OCH3 (complex 4), R = C5H5N (complex 6)] were prepared from Pentamethylcyclopentadi- enyl ruthenium (III) chloride polymer, [Cp*(RuCl2)]n, and the corresponding phosphine ligand diphenyl (2-methoxyphenyl)phosphine (ligand 1) or diphenyl-2-pyridylphosphine (ligand 3). MMA was successfully polymerized by Ru (III) complexes via ATRP in the absence of any reducing agent or free radical initiators. Polymerization results obtained by complexes 6 and 4 were compared with a reported complex (R=C6H5 (complex 5). All three complexes produced linear relationship between ln[Mn]0/[Mn] versus reaction time showing constant number of radical species. Experimental molecular weight increased progressively with monomer consumption giving narrow polydispersity. Reaction rate decreased in the order of complex (4) > complex (5) >complex (6). |
