Interfacial Evaluation and Microfailue Mechanisms of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy-CTBN Modified Amine Terminated (AT) Polyetherimide (PEI) Composite using Microdroplet Test |
초록 |
Thermosetting epoxy resins have high strength and modulus, thermal stability and excellent chemical resistance, whereas these properties in an epoxy resin require a high crosslinking density, which results usually in a brittle behavior. The high performance thermoplastics, such as poly(ethersulfone) (PES), polyetherimide (PEI) and polycarbonate, or a combination of rubbers and thermoplastics, etc., are commonly added to thermosetting resins as processing modifiers and increased toughness without reducing thermal and mechanical properties. In this work, carboxyl terminated butadiene acrylronitril (CTBN) modified amine terminated (AT)-PEI was synthesized as an inducing chemical interaction and improved the fracture toughness in epoxy matrix. The fracture toughness and interfacial shear strength (IFSS) with CTBN modified AT-PEI content were measured by three-point short beam and microdroplet tests. Amine and CTBN groups in matrix may contribute to improvement of IFSS and fracture toughness, respectively.
