Miscibility of natural rubber (NR) and polyurethane (PU) was investigated for blends of natural rubber latex and waterborne polyurethane based on ester type polyol which could be prepared by simple mixing of two different colloids and dried to get films. It was found that the blends of NR and PU were partially miscible and the incorporation of PU into NR resulted in the improvement of green strength, tensile strength, and moduli of the blends. With increasing the NR content of the NR/PU blends, the soft segment Tg's of PU rich phase were not changed while Tg's of NR rich phase were lowered. It was found that NR was hardly dissolved into PU while PU was partially dissolved into NR in the blends. |
