| 제목 | Membrane Technology for Integrated Water Reuse |
| 초록 | Increasing concern over the shortage of water supply has raised the need to develop alternative water sources, including the reuse and recycling of wastewater. The popularity of water reuse is increasing because of the various associated benefits. Both municipalities and industrial facilities are currently focusing on reusing water due to its economical and environmental benefits. Water reuse involves the use of treated water for planned purposes such as irrigation, toilet flushing, Industrial processes, and Indirect potable reuse. Recently, an integrated approach to water reuse has been implemented for an efficient management of water cycle in urban area. This integrated urban water management requires the reuse of not only wastewater but also stormwater and groundwater in large-scale applications. Membrane technology is regarded as one of the most promising options for water use although it is relatively new addition to the water reuse technologies. Depending on the purpose, either low pressure membranes (microfiltration and ultrafiltration) or high pressure membranes (nanofiltration and reverse osmosis) are applied. Hybrid membrane technologies such as membrane bioreactor (MBR) and dual membrane system (combination of MF/UF with RO) have also become attractive options. However, the challenge to widespread adoption of hybrid membrane systems is the optimization of design and operation conditions, which is crucial to minimize fouling and energy requirement. This paper will provide an overview of the application of membrane hybrid systems in water reuse and will depict the state of art techniques for optimize these systems. Particular attention will be paid to the integrated water reuse system that uses various water sources in urban area. A case study will be presented on a pilot-scale plant to provide useful information to decision makers and managers for selecting the most feasible combination of water reuse technologies for their own purpose. |
