Energy level alignments at the interfaces between nucleobases and prototype electrodes for optoelectronic devices |

Although optoelectronic devices with DNA based materials have shown much improved efficiency owing to their unique electronic properties, the charge transport mechanism has not been elucidated yet. The charge transport properties should depend crucially on the electronic structures of DNA based material in contact with material of interests. To understand the correlation between charge transport and electronic structures of DNA based materials, as a starting point, we studied the interfacial electronic structures between four nucleobases and prototype electrodes of ITO and Al using in situ ultraviolet and x-ray photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory. It gives an insight to understand the conductivity of DNA which is highly dependent on the interfacial contact. Our results would provide a perspective to utilize the DNA bases as an electronic material in organic optoelectronic device. |
