Computer simulation methods for both noncooperative and cooperative packing processes have been developed for studying packing of particles under the influence of gravity. Bulk properties and local properties of the resulting microstructures are obtained, and structural correlations are examined through direct observations of the generated microstructures, diffraction patterns, and radial distribution functions. The results are compared, and indicate that the simulations mimic closely what is observed in experiments and that the proposed simulations can serve as valuable tools in the analysis and design of ceramic processing methods based on powder processing routes.
